School Counseling Supervision

Counseling has become increasingly essential to independent schools’ ability to deliver their services and achieve their educational mission. Yet schools are not always sufficiently knowledgeable about the role of the counselor. And counselors, who come from various training backgrounds and hold a variety of licensures, are left challenged to navigate the complex demands of individual students, the school community, and their own ethical and professional guidelines.

The lack of certainty around counselors’ roles leaves students underserved and can put institutions and individuals in the school community at risk.

Sarah provides supervision to school counselors in day and boarding schools that:

  • understands the unique missions, administrative infrastructures, and educational programs of independent schools
  • clarifies the role of the school counselor in the unique environments of independent day and boarding schools
  • mitigates individual and institutional risk
  • maximizes the delivery of the quality services that promote student success.

Sarah, an adjunct clinical faculty member at Boston University’s School and Community Counseling program and a long-time independent school administrator and teacher, teaches best practices in school counseling, provides counseling supervision, presents regularly at national conferences, and is in the process of writing a book on ethical and practical guidelines in school counseling for The National Association of Independent Schools.
